Body Love: a prayer

Some of the people I love have a tough time when they go out in public.

They imagine that others are judging them based on their looks, clothing or behavior – and sometimes, that is exactly what’s happening.

They worry that they’re not measuring up. They feel out of place, like an outsider.

They don’t feel good enough.

Some days, neither do I.

I think we all experience this, at one time or another.

And if I could reach up into the sky and pull down a neverending lifeline of self-love and hot-damn-I’m-fantastic, and do a quick transfusion for all of us, I would.

But I can’t.

So I wrote a prayer for those moments when we’re not feeling quite so great about ourselves – especially our physical selves. I wrote it with my friends in mind, but it might apply to you too.

It’s not the kind of prayer that sings from the mountaintops about how gorgeous and perfectly created we all are.

Although those things are completely true, that’s not what my friends are feeling right now, so a prayer that claims they’re all lovey-dovey happy in their skin would be insincere.

I prefer prayers that are straight up honest about where we are and speak clearly about where we want to go.

I hope this prayer meets them where they are, and helps them begin to lift themselves higher.

If you sometimes feel not good enough in your skin too, I pray it does the same for you.

Have a listen. Offer it up as your own.
